I, Zaphira! is the portrait of a young mother in a battle with the rigid traditions of her village in order to secure a better life for her daughter, whose looks may win her a way out through a career as a fashion model. No sacrifice is too great for Zaphira as she launches the young girl on the path to hoped-for fashion stardom, and becomes so obsessed with this dream that she fails to notice her daughter’s own misgivings.
