At the dawn of the 3rd millennium multiparty democracy is still on shaky ground in Africa. Rapt à Bamako—an action film set in a country where democracy is struggling to take root—follows events as seen through the eyes of 14-year-old Malik and Sara. Thanks to the open-mindedness and fighting spirit of these young people from different cultural backgrounds—Malian and Western—and the resolve of their grandmother, Mah, tragedies are avoided: abduction, murder, and the hijacking of results from a presidential election by one of the politicians, whose neglect and scorn for the human condition becomes clear.
