King Nana Kwaku Acheampong is dead. Surrounded by his loved ones, he embarks on his last journey—to reach Asamando, the Kingdom of the Ancestors. We travel to Ashanti, in the heart of Ghana, to attend the funeral of this deceased sovereign of Kenyasi, and discover the strange and fascinating death rituals of the Akan. Men and women gather by the hundreds on the village square and in a festive atmosphere dance to the captivating rhythm of the tom-toms. As jubilation mixes with lamentation, we are reminded how life and death here are intimately linked.
